Pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery after concurrent intra-arterial chemotherapy with radiotherapy for advanced tongue cancer.

چکیده
BACKGROUND Aneurysms of the external carotid artery and its branches are rare. METHODS We present an extremely rare case of pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery secondary to concurrent intra-arterial chemotherapy via the superficial temporal artery for advanced tongue cancer. RESULTS The patient developed sudden and significant oral bleeding from the left tongue base 10 weeks after the completion of treatment. Angiography provided a diagnosis of pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery, and subsequent endovascular intervention was an effective means of controlling bleeding. CONCLUSION Rupture of a pseudoaneurysm causes massive, life-threatening bleeding, which requires adequate diagnosis and treatment. Pseudoaneurysm should be considered in cases showing sudden oral bleeding after intra-arterial chemotherapy for advanced head and neck cancer.

Chemotherapy using intra-arterial infusion for oral cancer.
There are three historically recognized methods of intra-arterial infusion for oral cancer: Conventional intra-arterial infusion via the superficial temporal artery: Superselective intra-arterial infusion via the femoral artery (Seldinger method), New superselective intra-arterial infusion via the superficial temporal artery. Here we report a recent instance of daily concurrent chemoradiotherap...

متن کاملA novel approach to translymphatic chemotherapy targeting sentinel lymph nodes of patients with oral cancer using intra-arterial chemotherapy - preliminary study
BACKGROUND Recent progress in ICG (indocyanine green) fluorescence imaging has provided a means by which we can detect sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) without the risk of exposing patients to radiation. Neck metastasis is the most significant prognostic factor. It is imperative that early metastasis can be controlled. Intra-arterial chemotherapy is performed in order to preserve organs and to impro...
